The Little Prince
~Antoine de Saint-ExuperyIf it's been years since you've read this classic, or if you've never read it, it's time to enjoy the simple but profound wisdom of the mystical Little Prince who leaves his planet to visit others and discovers that adults are too practical to understand things, and that it's worth everything to love. ______________________
Recipe of the Month
Pumpkin Seed, Dried Cherry Trail Mix: This recipe is from the Food Network and is delicious!
Ingredients
- 2 cups baby pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
- 1 cup slivered almonds
- 3/4 cup raw sunflower seeds
- 6 tablespoons pure Grade B maple syrup
- Coarse salt
- 1 cup dried cherries or cranberries
Directions
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
In
a large bowl, toss the pumpkin seeds, almonds, and sunflower seeds and
the syrup until evenly coated. Spread the nuts and seeds out, in an
even single layer, on the lined baking sheets and season with salt to
taste. Bake the nuts, stirring several times with spatula or wooden
spoon, until just golden, about 20 minutes.
Cool
the nuts completely on the pan, then add the cherries and toss to
combine. Store cooled trail mix in an airtight container at room
temperature. |

My New Year's intention was a Yoga Challenge to myself -- attend a yoga class seven days a week for 90 days! And I'm doing it! As I go through my 90 day Yoga Challenge experiencing the amazing teachers and co-practitioners, my mind seems to clear out the fog that comes with having a newborn and being sleep deprived. I needed a way to fill my cup up in order to give back to my family, my children, and the yoga community.
We think of basic needs such as food, shelter, and water,
but Shakti of Yoga World Reach presents a broader view in the vision statement of that organization: "I would offer, however, that inner power is the most basic need of all. What is Inner power? Inner power is the force behind one's first breath. It is the force that upholds the quest for basic survival. It is also the ability to recognize and take responsibility for one's choices, including the choices of how they experience joy or suffering." When I read that, I said, "This is IT" -- exactly what I feel and believe! Yoga is my basic need. It is my spiritual practice. Yoga keeps me connected to what is important and to who I AM and who I want to be. (To read the Yoga World Reach vision statement go to our website.)
Have you asked yourself what your basic needs are and if they are being met? If you want to be inspired and create a habit that will rock your world, hop up into a yoga challenge, maybe 30 days or maybe 90 days; it really doesn't matter. What is important is that you DO IT. As you commit to your challenge, you'll find that it's easier to make it to class -- you have no other option. You just show up because you already decided!
To your filled up and overflowing heart,
Tataya

Will You Accept the Challenge ? Want to find out how a regular yoga practice can change your life?
We were so excited when practitioner Felice Reddy (read her journal below) sent us an email this week suggesting a 30 in 30 Yoga Challenge. "I have been thinking about encouraging the 30-in30 among ybb practitioners. I was thinking it might be good to propose in the newsletter. " Felice even volunteered to spearhead the challenge!
Here's how is will work:
- To encourage commitment those who want to accept the challenge will pay $5.00.
- Each time you come to a class you will stamp your Challenge Card.
Those who complete the challenge will receive a Challenge T-shirt from YBB! Step up to the Challenge and we guarantee you'll see yourself and the world in a different light.

Excerpts From A Practitioner's Yoga Challenge Journal (to read more go to our website) by Felice Reddy January 23, 2019 When my friend and I decided to do a 30-day yoga challenge, we knew exactly why we would do it. Yoga classes are a gift and a blessing; we are always glad we go. Yet so often in our busy lives we don't go to class. There are always excuses and reasons: I'm hungry, I'm tired, I need to work, I haven't seen my family, I just don't have time. . . My yoga
itself is unfolding and already I can do things
with comfort and joy
that I could not do a month ago. I
watch myself improve and my
patience and tolerance for my imperfections grows.
January
15, 2010 Today Tataya reminded us to just be. Be grateful. . . I
love my yoga even more when I do it as an act of love, a caring gesture in which I can invest my mind, heart, and
body to send good
energy toward the person in need,
or in this case the country in
need. As I think of the few
images I have seen of the disaster in Haiti, thank goodness I have no TV, my heart swells with
sadness. . .I
love the feeling of being grounded and
connected, believing there is
a power of love and
goodness despite unspeakable pain and horror,
ravaged lands, broken hearts, immense despair, and
yet we go to yoga. Yet we must be. Be as peaceful and good as we possibly can. Be as
grateful and true as our
wills can allow.

Message
from today: Don't be a dead man walking.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs
starts with food and water
and shelter. The top of the pyramid is self-
actualization. Thomas discussed turning the pyramid on its head
(tripod style). He said spirituality and inner
peace should be the
fundamental needs -- without this grace and purpose what is the point
of achieving house, money, possessions?. . .
